The Cross of Valour Association has had a strong connection with the Tribal Warrior Aboriginal Corporation and the CEO, Mr Shane Phillips for some time. Our President, Allan Sparkes CV,VA has been a supporter of Tribal Warrior, regularly attending the morning training sessions that involve the Clean Slate Without Prejudice Programs and the Never Going Back Programs. Also a strong supporter of the Tribal Warrior Aboriginal Corporation are the Patron, The Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and the Governor of NSW, His Excellency General The Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Ret'd).
In 2016, the Tribal Warrior vessel, the Mari Nawi suffered significant damage and was in urgent need of significant repairs and refurbishment. A call for help went out and the Cross of Valour Association worked extremely hard with Ms Suzanne Meli, a highly experienced event organiser to create something special and do their best to raise the much needed funds. A fundraising event was created and dignitaries were invited to become an Indigenous Ally at a fundraising Dinner on 20 October 2016. The evening commenced at Government House Sydney before heading to Darling Harbour where 90 Corporate guests dined at the Malaya Restaurant and were entertained by two brilliant young Indigenous performers, Shanell Dargan and Mi-kaisha Masella. With the support of so many wonderful people and our and our Vice Patrons, Mr Ray Martin AM and Mr Richard Rolfe OAM, the goal of the event was achieved and the vessel was completely refurbished and back on the water, creating training opportunities, career paths and funds to support the ongoing activities of Tribal Warrior.
